Abstract: The paper presents a case study of basic machine learning techniques applied to a selected set of cursive hieroglyphs. A processing pipeline is described including analyses with dimensionality reduction and cluster algorithms. The research topic is part of the author’s PhD thesis, which deals with the paleographic analysis of cursive hieroglyphs during the Middle Kingdom and is associated with the project “Altägyptische Kursivschriften”.
