In this work, C-O-, N-N- and C-N-bond bonds were investigated by anodic oxidation of amides in intramolecular cyclization reactions. Different structures with amide functionalities were oxidized under electrochemical conditions directly at the anode. First, the corresponding precursor molecules were prepared and afterwards the electrochemical key step was optimized using a model substrate. The optimized conditions could be tested on further examples. Thus, benzoxazoles could be synthesized from benzanilides by means of C-O bond coupling and the corresponding phthalazione-1,4-diones from phthalic acid dianilides by means of N,N bond linkage. In addition to the synthetic work, the mechanism of C-O- and N-N-bond formation was investigated by means of cyclovoltammetry and synthetic studies. The aim was to clarify whether N-N bond formation occurs via radical or cationic intermediates. Therefore, the individual oxidation potentials of the employed amides had to be determined by cyclovoltammetry using model substrates. Subsequently, non-symmetrical malonic acid dianilides were prepared, which form diradical or cationic intermediates according to the determined oxidation potentials, and electrolyzed. The knowledge gained in this process could then be used to illuminate the mechanism of C-O bond formation. In addition, the possibility of C-N bond formation was investigated and synthesis routes were found to produce N-arylphenanthridin-6-ones from N-arylbiphenyl-2-carboxamides and the corresponding N-benzoylcarbazoles from biphenyl-2-benzamides. In all developed methods 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoroisopropanol turned out to be a valuable solvent, which possesses radical-stabilizing properties and selectively enables the formation of the above-mentioned compounds.
