Abstract
In this thesis the concept of an elliptical in-vacuum undulator following the APPLE II
design, IVUE32, is introduced together with the design challenges specific to
the impedance contribution of the device. The theory of impedances in particle
accelerators is discussed together with the concept of a Goubau transmission line
test stand. Extensive wakefield simulations of IVUE32 components are presented,
focusing on the taper section and the shielding foils. A Goubau transmission line
test stand is presented together with measurement results of simplified models. In
the scope of this thesis several different taper section designs were analyzed and
improvements towards a reduced impedance contribution were made.
