Abstract: Das Experiment zur Überprüfung der Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn(GDH)-Summenregel am Mainzer Mikrotron diente zur Messunghelizitätsabhängiger Eigenschaften der Photoproduktion amProton.
At the Mainz Microtron, an experiment was carried out toverify the validity of the Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn (GDH) sum rule. The experiment was in addition used to evaluatethe helicity dependent properties of photoproduction reactions on the proton. Helicity dependencies of partialchannels of the single-pion, double-pion and eta productioncould be observed. For double-pion photoproduction not muchdata exist. Therefore, this reaction is up to now widelynot understood. This motivates the exploration of furtherobservables like the helicity dependence. When a circularlypolarised photon interacts with a longitudinally polarisednucleon their spins can be combined to 1/2 and 3/2. Thisyields two helicity dependent cross-sections. This PhD thesis describes the set-up of the Mainz GDH experiment andthe technical realisation of the measurement of helicity-dependant cross-sections. The helicity dependenceof the double-charged double-pion photoproduction on the proton was explored using data of the GDH experiment. Thereaction is a two-step process where the excited nucleon may decay resonant or non-resonant into its final stateparticles. By the helicity dependence, degrees of freedomof this reaction could be fixed and allowed an optimisationof the models of the Valencia and the Gent-Mainz groups.Data shown in this thesis created a motivation for furtherexplanation attempts by the mentioned theory groups.
