The main focus of this thesis is the development of concepts for novel reactive and multi-functional poly(ethylene glycol)s (PEGs). A variety of synthetic strategies based on the ring-opening polymerization (AROP) of epoxides were explored, and the obtained polyether materials were characterized in great detail. Prospective areas of application of these polymers include functional hydrogels, surfactants as well as surface coatings. In particular, this work was motivated by the aim to establish new functional monomers and polyether structures.en_GB
