In the branching process with immigration estimators for the mean offspring m of an individual and the mean immigration λ per generation are constructed, which evaluate only the population size of each generation. They are consistent, without previous knowledge whether the process is subcritical (m<1), critical (m=1) or supercritical (m>1), except the estimator for λ in the supercritical case. But this is no restriction because it is shown that there exists no consistent estimator for λ in this case. Further the estimator’s rate of convergence and the asymptotic distribution of the estimation errors are investigated. Therefore the cases (m<1), (m>1) and (m=1) have to be differentiated, which demands different approaches (ergodicity, martingale methods, diffusion approximation). This diploma thesis is oriented along the ideas and results of Wei and Winnicki (1989/90). |
