| dc.description.abstract | Aufgrund des inklusiven Charakters von Konsensdemokratien geht Arend Lijphart (1999, 2012) davon aus, dass diese insbesondere im Bereich der Umweltpolitik eine bessere Performanz aufweisen. Aufbauend auf Lijpahrt wird analysiert, ob sich die ökologische Performanz von Konsens- und Mehrheitsdemokratien unterschiedet. Untersucht wird folglich der Zusammenhang zwischen institutioneller Struktur und ökologischer Performanz anhand von 29 OECD-Ländern in den Jahren 2000 bis 2015. Für die Messung ökologischer Performanz wird auf das Konzept der starken und schwachen Nachhaltigkeit zurückgegriffen. Während eine Ausrichtung der Politik am starken Nachhaltigkeitskonzept primär eine Änderung der Konsummuster impliziert, orientiert sich das schwache Nachhaltigkeitskonzept in erster Linie an Effizienzsteigerungen. Ausgehend von dieser Unterscheidung werden ausgewählte Indikatoren jeweils einem der Konzepte zugeordnet und aggregiert. Ein positiver Effekt konsensdemokratischer Strukturen lässt sich für den Index starker Nachhaltigkeit feststellen. Bezüglich der Performanz schwacher Nachhaltigkeit kann kein Hinweis institutioneller Strukturen festgestellt werden. | de_DE |
| dc.description.abstract | Due to the inclusive character of consensus democracies, Arend Lijphart (1999, 2012) assumes that they perform better, especially in the field of environmental policy. Based on Lijpahrt this analysis shows whether the ecological performance differs between consensus and majority democracies. Following this assumption, the relationship between institutional structure and ecological performance is examined on the basis of 29 OECD countries in the years 2000 to 2015. To measure ecological performance the concept of strong and weak sustainability is applied. While a policy orientation towards strong sustainability primarily implies a change in consumption patterns, weak sustainability is primarily oriented towards efficiency improvements. Based on the distinction between strong and weak sustainability, specific indicators are assigned to each of the concepts and are aggregated in a second step. A positive effect of consensus-democratic structures can be observed for the index of strong sustainability. With regard to the performance of weak sustainability, no evidence of institutional structures can be found. | en_GB |
