Several DNA banks were provided, others were already present. These cDNA expression banks were examined by means of antibody and/or probescreening on hemocyanin and/or within the insects also on hexamerins. It succeeded to identify various subunits of hemocyanin and to sequence them. The sequences were used in phylogenetic studies. It could be shown here, that the so called "tracheata hypothesis" becomes ever more improbable. This hypothesis postulates a sistergroup position of the Hexapoda and the Myriapoda. The investigations made here contradict this hypothesis clearly. The results support rather the "Pancrustacea hypothesis". In the phylogenetic trees the hemocyanins of Crustacean are clearly arranged in close relationship to the hemocyanins of Insects, that developed paraphyletic. Whether the Crustacean are of monophylletic origin, cannot be judged clearly, further justified doubts do exist. In the phylogenetic trees, the hemocyanines of Myriapoda build a sister group to the hemocyanins of Crustaceans and Insects. This refers to a common taxon of the Mandibulata. The systematic position of the Myriapoda within the Arthropoda cannot be clarified finally. To solve this problem, a further clearing-up of hemocyanin sequences is necessary in this taxon.
